As is the tradition at Eater, our closeout of the year is a survey of friends, industry types, and bloggers. We've already covered the restaurant standbys, top newcomers, 2014 in one word, best dining neighborhood, biggest dining surprises, and the single best meal of the year. Now, it's time for restaurant and dining trend breakups. Readers, please leave your thoughts in the comments.

Q: Were there any restaurants or dining trends you broke up with in 2014?

Steve Wilke, Editor Hour Detroit: Sorry to be so nice, but I can't say anything in particular really bugged me. Maybe the long waits? But that's a good thing.

Courtney Ochab, Editor Detroit Beer Press: Dirty draft beer lines. I had a friend tell me "beer is food" and I believe that to the highest degree. I don't want to order a glass of bacteria when I ask for a craft beer. I also have a high regard for the breweries that craft their product and to ruin something so great, by putting it through a dirty draft line. Yeah, it's over at that point.

Victoria Trudeau, Former Editor Eater Detroit: No reservations, or not enough of them. I get it, these new places are all super hot and super busy, but trying to figure out whether or not I need to eat a small meal before heading out to dinner to account for the 1-2 hour wait for a table (when you can even start ordering actual food) is a pain...especially because most of them have no actual waiting area for guests. In a state with 6 month winters. Really?!

Brenna Houck, Editor Eater Detroit: Anything vegetarian option at a restaurant that's called the "hippie (insert type of food here)" is my pet peeve. Don't make people feel awkward for wanting to order something off your menu without meat.

Detroit Foodie: Ridiculously priced popup dinners! Since when did the ‘norm' become $50 per person?!?!?

Chow Down Detroit: I broke up with Joe Muer's.

Hannah Lowe, Freelance Journalist: Too much salt. I think some folks are scared of the dreaded "under-seasoning" but then dishes can be in-your-face salt, no flavor—just salt.

Kat Rembacki, Editor Core Detroit: Restaurants that don't accept credit cards. I almost never carry cash, and it's a huge bummer to have to hit the ATM to pay for lunch.

Steve Wilke, Editor Hour Detroit: Corktown certainly made strides, with Ottava Via, La Feria, and Two James (not technically dining, but their gin alone deserves a mention), joining Slows, Mercury, Mudgies, etc.

Brenna Houck, Editor Eater Detroit: Many of the core neighborhoods did really well this year, but I still think Corktown manages to cultivate the largest amount of new and exciting food and drink destinations within just a few blocks.

It is a tradition at Eater to survey friends, industry types, and bloggers at the end of each year. Welcome to the second of these posts, where we ask them (and ourselves) what were the best new restaurant this year.

Steve Wilke, Editor Hour Detroit: Another tough call. Wright & Co., certainly. Selden Standard, of course. Antietam (twice). Bistro 82, to name just a few.

Courtney Ochab, Editor Detroit Beer Press: Every beer enthusiast was waiting in the cold for Hopcat's doors to open and I was no exception. Johnny Noodle King has also been a huge impact, especially when you're searching for something warm and filling in the upcoming cold months.

Victoria Trudeau, Former Editor Eater Detroit: Antietam's new staff is incredible, by far my favorite meal at a new Detroit restaurant this year, I'm an escargot pâté convert, they've proven that grits aren't boring, and that oxtail is just blissfully good. Wright & Co., as mentioned (previously), is my new neighborhood favorite, the food is solid and the drinks are innovative, it's a safe bet that everyone will find something they like on the menu. And it's a bit of a drive, but every time I go to Rose's Fine Food I just want to go right back again, because they are the loveliest people serving food that is everything regular diner food wishes it could be.

Brenna Houck, Editor Eater Detroit: So many places to eat, so little time. Again with the breakfast, I'd have to say Rose's Fine Food. "That Green Dude" is delicious and a little bit different every time. The donuts there are pretty spectacular and I like the relaxed diner feel. As far as popups, I really enjoyed my meal from Norma G's at Popupalooza and oxtail pho from Tuktuk-Tuktuk. I had an excellent meal at Antietam and one with Katoi, which introduced me to some exciting flavors.

Kat Rembacki, Editor Core Detroit: Selden Standard—amazing food, wonderful service. Absolutely worth the wait. Wright & Co. It's high-energy but comfortable, and the food is delish. If you haven't tried the warm dates with bacon, you're missing out.

It is a tradition at Eater to survey friends, industry types, and bloggers at the end of each year. Welcome to the first of these posts, where we ask them (and ourselves) about restaurant standbys, those places where we found ourselves again and again in 2014.

Question: What was your restaurant standby this year?

Steve Wilke, Editor Hour Detroit: Tough call. Didn't go to very many more than a handful of times (too many places; so little time). Bigalora was in the rotation, so was El Barzon, Bacco, St. Cece's ... and Town Tavern is always consistently good...

Courtney Ochab, Editor Detroit Beer Press: We work out of Ponyride in Corktown, so I was a frequent eater at Bucharest, Rubbed, and Mudgies. Supino's large Smokey is always a companion when we head to Atwater Brewery for a brown ale.

Victoria Trudeau, Former Editor Eater Detroit: La Feria was still one of my all-purpose, go-to's in 2014. It's consistently delicious, and their sangria is good all year round. Wright & Co. has become my neighborhood staple for casual celebratory meals, and even a quick drink and an appetizer during the week, since it's within walking distance.

Brenna Houck, Editor Eater Detroit: Brooklyn Street Local. I'm a big fan of breakfast and their vegetarian poutine. Al Shallal in Dearborn Heights for tasty, inexpensive Middle Eastern food. One Eyed Betty's for the beer list.

Kat Rembacki, Editor Core Detroit: 7 Greens for lunch. I'm there two or three times a week. Can't go wrong with a Dan Dan and tofu. Fountain Bistro for Happy Hour—those duck wings...mmmmmmm. One Eyed Betty's in Ferndale. I never tire of their craft beer selection. Also, pork belly poutine.
