Like many traditions sullied by the pandemic, Paczki Day celebrations around metro Detroit will be much more toned down. Social distancing, mask wearing, 25 percent capacity allowances, and public safety guidelines will all be enforced on Tuesday, February 16. Many local spots are requiring pre-orders this year of traditional and non-traditional paczki goods. Despite it all, metro Detroit’s restaurant community has come together to create some creative twists on the traditional Polish doughnut treat, including box bundles, unique paczki fillings, alcohol-filled paczki and paczki-filled alcohol, and culturally combined sweet treats. Be prepared to mask up, follow requirements at each establishment, and be kind to restaurant, bar, and bakery staff.
