Honi Honi is a summer weekend-only experience on the patio at Ferndale's lauded cocktail bar The Oakland. The mai tais and daiquiris are budget-friendly and ideal to cool down on a warm night. For something a little fancier try the shareable Volcano. Michael Zadoorian, author of Lost Tiki Palaces of Detroit, is a huge fan of their Zombie. "The new school take at Honi Honi even surpasses the Zombie from the lost and much lamented Kahiki of Columbus, Ohio. That says a lot."

Chin's Chop Suey

Detroit's iconic tiki destination Chin Tiki, is sadly a figment of the past, but the nostalgia lives on at Chin's Chop Suey in Livonia where you can partake in a variety of tropical drinks served in vintage tiki mugs with old-school Chinese food.

Fresh off its Bill Murray re-branding, Sugar House is at it again with a tiki-themed spring menu takeover. The gorgeous foldout menu features island-inspired cocktails like the cacao old fashioned but the Thrown Painkiller is right behind and equally amazing.

Mudgie's Deli

While the bottled beer list (and soon to be tap system) is unrivaled, Mudgie's makes a mean cocktail as well. Check out the sweet and spicy If You're Not Into Yoga. Rum, chili, coconut and pineapple can't scream tiki any more if they tried.

The Standby
