January Heatmap: Where to Eat Right Now

View as Map

Happy 2014 Everyone! It's a new year, and there are a few new places opening up just in time for the January Heatmap. Unlike that more stable of standbys, the Eater 38, the Heatmap aims to be more current as it catches wind of the newest, most popular places to eat and drink each month, and the January map has both some new just open (or just opening) places, and some older restaurants with a new spring in their step.

The January map has the brand new West Village Craftwork, and the soon-to-open (preview is this weekend!) Alley Taco in Marcus Market. Hamtramck's Revolver and Rock City Eatery stepped up with more good press to reclaim spots on the list, and the duo Good Girls Go To Paris and Rodin are appearing one last time in their current states as in just two weeks one is going and the other is moving.

Had a less-than happy experience at one of these places? Been somewhere else that feels worthy of high praise and popular approval? Drop us a note on our tipline or leave your thoughts below. We know you will.

Market North End

It's been making lists of best new restaurants of 2013, and reviewers keep raving about the interesting menu-a departure from the usual Birmingham steakhouse routine. [Photo]

Rock City Eatery

Like the little engine that could, Rock City keeps changing it up and raking in great reviews from both critics and normal folk alike. The low prices, and ever changing menu (they just totally revamped it again) keep customers coming back again and again. [Photo]

With a fancy new article in Hour Detroit and a growing reputation for dinner-party like dining in a relaxed setting with increasingly stellar chefs, Revolver is back on the list this month in a big way. [Photo]

CRAFTWORK

It was long awaited, but Craftwork is finally open in West Village. Early signs are good, as the food is supposed to be fantastic according to early Yelp reviews. [Photo]

Good Girls Go To Paris Crepes

The buzz around Good Girls centers on the fact that in just a few weeks they are moving from their current location to the corner, taking over Rodin's old spot and adding a liquor license. This is the last chance to eat in the old location, which begs the question, will the movie posters be moving too? Let's hope so. [Photo]
It's only a year old, but Rodin is out and Good Girls is in. Rodin's doors are closing in just two weeks or so, and while Chef Kate Williams is long gone, there's still a little time to pay your respects. [Photo]

Alley Taco (in Marcus Market)

Technically they're not officially open yet, but with pop-ups at Great Lakes Coffee every Tuesday and a preview party this Saturday (along with regular hours to come this month) the buzz is there and the customers are already loyal.[Photo]

La Feria Spanish Tapas

It's just so good, and people love it so much, that La Feria has yet again made the list. It's a little piece of Europe in Midtown, and the sangria is plentiful, so why not? [Photo]

Detroit Institute of Bagels

It's been anticipated for ages, and the new DIB is doing well, already becoming a vital part of the city. Freshly made bagels, plain, with homemade spreads, or as sandwiches, have the hipsters and everyone else happily lining up and sitting down in the bright interior. [Photo]
