February Heatmap: Where to Eat Right Now

View as Map

It's already time for the February Heatmap, but this isn't "romantic Valentine's Day spots", this is the list of the places people just keep talking about. Unlike that more stable of standbys, the Eater 38, the Heatmap aims to be more current as it catches wind of the newest, most popular places to eat and drink each month, and the February map has both some new just open (or just opening) places, and some older restaurants with a new spring in their step.

The February map features Topsoil (the new cafe inside of the MOCAD), Corktown's Green Dot Stables (they've been in the national news), and Marais in Grosse Pointe (they're bringing their brunch game). Other places are holding spots on the list or showing up for the first time because they've got some new tricks (The Rattlesnake Club is one example).

Had a less-than happy experience at one of these places? Been somewhere else that feels worthy of high praise and popular approval? Drop us a note on our tipline or leave your thoughts below. We know you will.

Market North End

It's been making lists of best new restaurants of 2013, and reviewers keep raving about the interesting menu-a departure from the usual Birmingham steakhouse routine. [Photo]

Topsoil (MOCAD)

The vegetarian/vegan cafe is done by the folks at Russell Street Eatery, so it's definitely done right. The menu is small and the hours are a little strange (they have the same hours as the MOCAD) but it's exciting to see the Museum finally get something permanent in place. [Photo]

Alley Taco (in Marcus Market)

Technically they're not officially open yet, but with pop-ups at Great Lakes Coffee every Tuesday and a preview party this Saturday (along with regular hours to come this month) the buzz is there and the customers are already loyal.[Photo]

Dangerously Delicious Pies

Something about the cold weather never ending has people scrambling for comfort food, and Dangerously Delicious Pies, with their warm savory and sweet options, seems to hit the spot. Of course, maybe being inside of a bar has something to do with it as well... [Photo]

Green Dot Stables

They've been around, but they're generating new buzz with an article in a national publication (Washington Post) and the truffle fries can almost make winter better. [Photo]

The Rattlesnake Club

The Auto Show brought tons of people into the city, and it seems that The Rattlesnake Club was rediscovered. They've got a recipe in Hour this month and are amping up their event schedule with a wine dinner, so they're clearly bringing that success into February. [Photo]

Craft Work

The West Village hotspot Craft Work has been doing well, earning good reviews for food and atmosphere and drawing people from not just all over Detroit, but from the suburbs too. [Photo]
They're steadily drawing people to the Pointes, and with their new Brunch Menu a whole new market is discovering Marais' special brand of French-inspired cuisine and fine dining. [Photo]
