Raised, jelly filled, old fashioned, and cake. Most doughnut shops serve an assortment, but not all doughnut shops offer a superior product. Metro Detroit's top destinations are a mixture of that classic Americana vibe and more updated takes. For sweetness and a bit of established history head to Dutch Girl on Woodward or another 24-hour essential, Dearborn's Donutville U.S.A. Don't miss out on the potato doughnuts at Rose's Fine Foods and find a daily dose of creativity at spots like Donut Bar in Southfield.

From an early morning snack with coffee to a late-night craving, here, now is a freshly fried guide to 15 excellent shops and restaurants serving up their take on sweet dough in metro Detroit.

Rose's Fine Foods doughnuts are in a category all their own. Not only are they super fresh, but they're also not too sweet and appear to be made with whole wheat flour that takes the flavor in a new and exciting direction. The featured doughnuts change daily, but are often topped with fresh raspberries or soaked in some sort of honey mixture. Don't eat here without ordering one.
