Michigan is undoubtedly home to one of the most important brewing scenes in the country with heavy hitters like Jolly Pumpkin and Bell’s. And that tradition of great beer in a great atmosphere is very much alive in metro Detroit. The area is home to dozens of breweries and beer bars, meaning folks are never far from a good pint. Some spots like Batch Brewing Company serve excellent food in addition to ales while others, like Urbanrest in Ferndale, specialize in sours and let food trucks handle the snacks. There’s even a few meaderies in there for good measure (Yes, we know it’s technically wine. But it’s undeniably marketed to beer drinkers.) Here, Eater has assembled a guide to some of the most sought after beer halls and taprooms around metro Detroit.
A number of metro Detroit restaurants have resumed dine-in service. The level of service offered is indicated on each map point. However, this should not be taken as endorsement for dining in, as there are still safety concerns: For updated information on coronavirus cases in your area, please visit the state of Michigan’s coronavirus tracker. Studies indicate that there is a lower exposure risk when outdoors, but the level of risk involved with patio dining is contingent on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines.
