A Taste Of Detroit Summer In February

View as Map

This has officially been a horrible winter, and it's warming up this week only to sink to supposedly Polar Vortex levels of cold again next week. Will spring and summer ever arrive? The answer is yes, but they're a long ways away. Therefore, the newest Eater Detroit Mini Map is summer themed, featuring some of the most warm-weather foods, drinks, activities, and views in the city.

A mini map is a hyper-focused map that's meant to give just a taste of a category or neighborhood, not the whole picture. This one includes five of the most summery culinary experiences in the city, within reason of course. We left off one of your favorites, guaranteed, but that's okay. Let us know what we missed in the comments and this could become a full fledged map in the future.

Have an idea for a mini map? Let us know! Maybe it's best cheap restaurants in the city, Downtown's greatest coffee, can't miss restaurants in Corktown, or the biggest margaritas in Mexican Town. Don't be shy, make a suggestion!

Summertime is frozen dessert time, but why wait until June to try Melt's assortment of gelato flavors? They change regularly, and they serve warm beverages too so go ahead and have both.[Photo]

Eastern Market is busiest in the warmer months, but the market condenses, moves inside, and keeps going all winter. The food trucks gather inside of Shed 5 (which is heated) so have a pseudo-food truck picnic with El Guapo, Beignets 2 Go, and The Mac Shack. [Photo]

The RiverWalk is one of the best parts of Detroit summer, and seafood brings to mind warm beaches and waves. Splurging on a dinner at Joe Muer overlooking the water is a perfect winter way to combine those two elements. [Photo]

Backyard barbecue on a hot summer night is the best, especially with cornbread and lemonade to wash it all down. The backyard part is less than advisable considering all of the snow, but the delicious food is within reach at Slows. [Photo]
