Cornwall Bakery, known for its European pastries, specialty cakes, breakfast, lunch, and teas, has closed for good. Chef/Baker Freeman Gunnell and his wife, Megan, bid farewell to customers on the Grosse Pointe Park bakery’s social media page on August 1.
The couple didn’t respond to requests for comment but a post on the bakery’s website directed customers to their new venture, Gunnell Innovation, a northern Michigan-based company hosting culinary tours, cooking classes, and communal table events.
Meanwhile, the Bronze Door is open in Grosse Pointe Farms. If it sounds familiar, it’s because a restaurant with the same name was in the same location (123 Kercheval) from the 1960s through the ’80s. Most recently, it was the home of the Hill Seafood & Chop House. The 90-seat restaurant will feature classic American fare such as fresh seafood, prime cuts, burgers, soups, and salads. The bar will serve a selection of handcrafted cocktails.
The restaurant is part of Joe Vicari Restaurant Group (JVRG), known for its Andiamo and Joe Muer Seafood restaurants. It’s open for dinner only.
