Detroit has a bustling pop-up scene — with creative offerings at restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and festivals. Here’s a list of some exciting ones to consider for August.
Steven Reaume’s NOODL returns to the pop-up scene with “Pesca,” a seafood and wine dinner party at Spot Lite. After dinner, guests are invited to stay for The Detroit I Love’s monthly dance party featuring Shawn J Wright, Minx, and TYLR_. A $50 prix-fixe menu features six courses and includes wine pairings from Carmela Specialty Foods & Fine Wines, selected by Brandon Brando. The evening’s background music will be a jazz vinyl set by DJ Michael Fotias of Laundryroom Studios.
Date: 5 p.m., Saturday, August 21.
Where: Spot Lite, 2905 Beaufait St., Detroit
How to book: Tickets can be purchased at Spot Lite or online at thedetroitilove.com/pesca
Chefs Nik and Chi will be serving a menu of bok choy salad with coconut turmeric vinaigrette, lamb, shrimp of shiitake cumin noodles, stir-fried long beans, and lemon chiffon with strawberry rhubarb coriander buttercream cake
Celebrate summer with a seafood crawfish boil (oysters, red fish, and crawfish boil) by Chicago chef and James Beard semifinalist Brian Jupiter, wines by Frame’s sommelier Sean Crenny, and cocktails by Jaz’min Weaver. Jupiter highlights Southern comfort food at his Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant Ina Mae Tavern and celebrates wild ingredients, with “whole animal wild game service” at his gastropub, Frontier.
Folk Detroit’s new vintage catering camper will sell cheese, charcuterie, and treats on the patio of the FilmLab as part of the Hamtramck Music Festival.
