Development Group Looks Into Replacing Union Street Detroit With a Grocery Store

Plus, Saffron De Twah opens for carryout and monthly subscriptions and Marche du Nain Rouge is canceled

Union Street Detroit could be replaced by a grocery store

A proposal by developers could see longtime restaurant and bar Union Street Detroit replaced with a grocery store, according to Crain’s Detroit Business. The restaurant on Woodward Avenue continues to remain closed due to the pandemic. The report indicates Target, Meijer, Westborn Market, and Trader Joe’s have all expressed interest in the building. Its owners are apparently in the process of buying out the leases on Union Street Detroit and the neighboring liquor store. Renovations should begin this summer on the building, which call for the preservation of its historic elements. Union Street Detroit has yet to return a request for comment sent earlier this week on the status of the restaurant. [CDB]

Saffron de Twah now offers monthly subscriptions and a new carryout menu

East side Moroccan restaurant Saffron De Twah reopened with a new carryout menu. Currently open Thursday through Saturday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saffron De Twah offers takeout with four pick-up times in 15-minute increments. Masks are required and only two patrons are allowed inside the restaurant at a time. For $15, people can also purchase a meal for someone in need through the Saffron Community Kitchen. In addition to pop-ups with local chefs like chef Ji Hye Kim of Miss Kim, Saffron De Twah offers monthly subscriptions with perks like virtual cooking classes with chef Omar Anani and special tasting menus.
