Pie business expands in Eastern Market
Four-year-old pie business Lush Yummies Pie Co. is expanding into a new production kitchen and retail shop in Eastern Market’s new food accelerator, Crain’s reports. Owner Jennifer Lyle, whose signature Lemon Butta pies are sold in grocery stores throughout the region, is planning to move from her current 600-square-food kitchen on Russell Street into a 1,800-square-foot kitchen with a 600-square-foot retail shop at 1520 Adelaide by November. The bakeshop will is on track to open in spring 2020 with Lemon Butta, Peach Butta Cobbler, and Apple Berry Butta pies. The company plans to refocus on selling to consumers via mail order subscriptions and their brick-and-mortar shop.
Staff and customer arrested after brawl at Lafayette Coney Island
Four people, including several Lafayette Coney Island employees, were arrested on Friday, according to the Detroit News. Three workers allegedly fought with a man who was eighty-sixed from American Coney Island and subsequently Lafayette for being rude to staff. The man allegedly came back and broke the restaurant’s windows. One employee in statements to the Detroit News suggest that the incident was motivated by xenophobia and that the customer was complaining that the employees were immigrants.
Detroit-style pizza slinger opens this week in Downriver
Buddy’s Pizza is opening its latest outpost in Woodhaven this week. The restaurant located at 21611 Allen Rd. is slated to debut at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 5 with seats for 200 and a 25-seat patio.
