Art Center cafe Fourteen East is preparing to uproot itself from the Park Shelton this fall. The eight-year-old coffee and tea shop located along Woodward Avenue announced the move through Facebook on Tuesday evening. Fourteen East is departing from its longtime address near the Detroit Institute of Arts and relocating to 2771 Woodward Avenue in the Wayne State University campus’s Mike Ilitch School of Business in Cass Corridor.
The minimalist, gallery-style shop owned by Joanne Czerny specializes in coffee and tea and is a favorite stop for customers looking for a slice of quiche or a scone in the museum district. The 15 E Kirby St. shop is scheduled close on Saturday, August 24. Fourteen East aims to reopen in its new space sometime in early December.
“We will miss all of you, our customers,” Fourteen East’s owner writes in the post. “We can’t thank you enough for all of your friendship and support these last eight years. Progress is always so bittersweet.”

The Ilitch School of Business was briefly home to an outpost of Avalon International Breads in 2018. The closure of Fourteen East marks is the latest business shuffle in the Park Shelton building, which recently welcomed a new all-day brunch cafe called Babo to its ranks.
Eater has reached out to Fourteen East for more details on the move. Stay tuned for more updates.
