A new walk-up window called Huddle devoted to swirly custard treats is finally opening in downtown Detroit. The new ice cream spot is located inside the former Chickpea in the D stand at 2 John R St. near Farmer Street and officially opens today at 4:30 p.m.
Restaurateurs Lea and Kyle Hunt of Gather and Cøllect in Eastern Market are behind the anticipated summer project. Gather is known for serving creative soft serve cones on its dessert menu and the menu at Huddle is an extension of that.
Visitors to the stand can expect to find classic chocolate, vanilla, or swirl soft serve with toppings like sea salt, rainbow and chocolate sprinkles, and mini chocolate chips, per a release. The cost is $4 for a cup or a cone plus $1 for a waffle cone and 50 cents per topping. The shop will also feature kids’ cones, flat and sparkling water, and $6 floats with options like cola, rootbeer, Vernor’s, and Rock N’ Rye.
Bonus: While many ice cream stands in the region are seasonal, Huddle is planning to remain open year-round downtown.
Huddle is located at 2 John R St.; open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
