A new Latin American restaurant is in the works for Cass Corridor. Vecino, a restaurant and bar serving Mexican, Brazilian, and Argentinian-influenced cuisine, is slated to open inside a distinctive corner building at 4100 Third Ave. sometime in 2020, Crain’s reports.
Attorney’s Luke Wietrzynski and Adriana Wietrzynski-Jimenez in partnership with former Waterford-based Mexican restaurant operator and mother-in-law Eva Lopez-Jimenez are behind the project. The family finalized a lease last week and has already tapped chef Francesco Tola, a former sous chef at Adachi in Birmingham, to lead the kitchen. D MET Studio is designing the 120-seat restaurant and work is expected to take about a year to complete.
Vecino is part of a recent crop of restaurants serving Central and South American cuisine in metro Detroit. In January, Joebar transformed into a Latin American restaurant called Latido while nearby Ferndale restaurant Culantro specializes in Peruvian chicken.
When it opens, the restaurant will join a growing list of food and beverage spots filling in storefronts on Third Avenue. Vecino will be located just a few doors down from Willis Show Bar and a new Indian restaurant called Detroit Masala, while Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken is across the street.
