Royal Oak restaurateur to open Indian eatery in Cass Corridor
A new Indian restaurant serving curry and masala burgers is slated to open inside the former Cake Ambition space on Third Avenue next to Blossoms flower shop, Crain’s reports. Royal Oak restaurateur Joe Ullah, who operates Detroit Eatery and the former Moti Mahal Indian restaurant, will open Detroit Masala inside the property this fall.
Salad shop readies for return to downtown Detroit
Just a little shy of a year and a half after being forced out of the Ford Building, downtown lunch staple the Green Room is preparing to reopen inside the Guardian Building. The restaurant is in the process of scheduling inspections, according to a post on Facebook, and with some luck could debut by the end of the month.
Motor City Match winners feature numerous food and beverage projects
Detroit restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and breweries were among the grant winners for latest round of Motor City Match, a small business program supported by the City of Detroit. Gathering Coffee Co. in the North End received $30,000 towards its forthcoming cafe, while Motor City Brewing Works nabbed a $75,000 grant to open its long-anticipated satellite brewery on the Avenue of Fashion. Comerica Hatch Detroit 2018 winner Toma Detroit will use its $80,000 to bring a Latin-influenced restaurant and mezcal bar to Corktown. Detroit Mini Donut received $5,000 toward the ongoing construction at its Harmonie Park space and in Woodbridge, Lexington Bar received $20,000.
