A new breakfast restaurant hits Livernois this fall
Northwest Detroit’s Avenue of Fashion district is gaining another breakfast restaurant in September. The Sweet Cafe, a former waffle cafe in Redford Township, is relocating to 20236 Livernois Ave. near Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, Crain’s reports. Owner Kimyana Reece plans to offer fancy waffles in flavors like caramel pecan. There will also be frozen custard and, most importantly, waffle ice cream sandwiches.
Rooftop nightclub opens in Greektown
The owners of Rochester’s the Meeting House and Royal Oak’s Hamlin Corner and Pronto have teamed up to open a restaurant and rooftop nightclub in the building formerly home to Santorini Estiatorio, according to Crain’s. The nightclub dubbed Delmar Detroit debuts on Friday, June 28. The first floor restaurant, whose name Friend & Associate sounds like a law office, is expected to open in mid-July with Greek dishes as well as pierogi, steak, and duck fat fries.
Another out of town bar pop-up lands in Detroit on Monday
As part of its ongoing charity bar series, the Skip is hosting Austin, Texas’s hit cocktail bar the Roosevelt Room from 6 p.m. to midnight on Monday, July 1. Patron’s can expect drinks like mai tais, Sherry Cobbler, and bruléed banana daiquiris.
Mark Kurlyandchik’s top dishes (so far) for 2019
Now that we’ve reached to the midpoint in 2019, Detroit Free Press critic Mark Kurlyandchik rounded up some of his favorite dishes of the year so far. They include items like the lamb tagine at Saffron De Twah as well as the döner at Balkan House and the steamed rice noodles from Chen’s Noodle in Madison Heights. There’s also icons like the grilled meats from Dearborn Meat Market and preview dinner items like forthcoming Birmingham restaurant Pernoi’s saffron capellini.
