Buzzy bar chain heads to downtown Detroit tonight
Cocktail sensation Broken Shaker will pop-up tonight at the Skip in downtown Detroit as part of the Belt Alley bar’s Communal Buzz charity event series. Miami-based Broken Shaker has been nominated twice for a James Beard Award and also garnered a #16 ranking on the World’s 50 Best Bars list in 2016. Broken Shaker has since expanded alongside the Freehand Hotel to New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will go to support Detroit-based non-profit organization, InsideOut Literary Arts.
New York-based bar heavyweight takes over Detroit’s cocktail lounge
Cocktail “mad genius” Dave Arnold, the founder of New York bar hotspot Existing Conditions and (now shuttered) Booker and Dax, will be taking over Candy Bar from 8 p.m. to midnight on Tuesday, June 25. Arnold, who founded the Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD), is one of the judges for charity bar event Cheftail at Lady of the House, and will stick around for an additional day to create a special menu for pink the Siren Hotel cocktail lounge. Arnold will be joined by partner and co-host from the Heritage Radio show “Cooking Issues,” Nastassia Lopez.
Nitrogen ice cream lands on a Royal Oak patio
Game bar and speakeasy combo Mr. B’s Gastropub and Johnny’s has introduced a nitrogen cafe on the patio this summer. The space serves cocktail-flavored ice creams made fresh using liquid nitrogen.
