The transition at the corner of Bagley Avenue and 18th Street is finally complete with the opening of Bagley Central. The neighborhood cocktail spot from longtime local bartender Mike Ketelhut debuted this month at 2545 Bagley St. with affordable drinks and bar snacks. The property, which shares a wall with fellow neighborhood newcomer Peso, underwent a huge change over the past several months. The former tenant Our/Detroit Vodka cultivated a more modern, minimalist look with white walls, black accents, wood, and metal chairs. Bagley Central’s team took the space in the opposite direction with some lovely results.

The bar embraces dark colors, jewel tones, and stylish velvet furnishings. Some fans of the shuttered Huron Room may notice that its booths and bar stools have been refurbished and moved into the new bar. The restaurant color of the moment — emerald green — sets the facade apart from its neighbor and makes its way into the interior as an accent on wall, furnishings, as the base for the cinched-waisted bar. Although the look is certainly inky, but it’s broken up by touches of shimmery silver paint and gold-tinted windows. Overall it’s quite a polished appearance, but still fun thanks in part to the addition of artwork and several projector screens.

Heading into its official opening weekend, Bagley Central is planning to kick off a DJ series with sets on Saturday and Sunday. At the bar, customers can find a range of cocktails priced around $6 and $8 as well as beer, wine (including seasonal sangria), and cider.

Eater’s photographers paid a visit to Bagley Central this week to look around the space. Take a peek and the transformation in the gallery below.

Bagley Central is located at 2545 Bagley St.; open 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday (opening at 2 p.m. on Cinco de Mayo).
