New vegan restaurants set opening dates
Metro Detroit’s latest vegan startup, Unburger Grill, opens today in Dearborn. The restaurant is located at 22018 Michigan Ave. and features a fast-food style menu with options like Sweet BBQ burgers with sweet potato-quinoa patties, tomato-red pepper soup, and raw garden salads. Unburger is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Meanwhile, metro Detroit pop-up Electric Plate is opening a brick-and-mortar vegan corner store with ready made foods in Oak Park. The location is hosting a grand opening on Saturday, August 25.
Restaurant rebrand
The Null Taphouse in Dexter, which is attached to Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales’ production facility, has undergone a name change. It’s now called Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales + Kitchen, which honestly makes a whole lot more sense. The full switchover including updated hours and food will be unveiled on Thursday, September 6. Null originally opened in 2016.
Corned beef egg roll drama in Green Acres
Detroit’s original Asian Corned Beef chain is looking to expand to Green Acres, but apparently some community members aren’t on board with the plan. One recent newsletter for the Greenacres-Woodward Civic Association featured a laundry list of concerns about the corned beef egg roll stand including fears the restaurant will bring “litter, noise, and stench” to the surrounding neighborhood. It might also face re-zoning issues.
