Vegan coney island nears opening day

Detroit’s hotly anticipated vegan coney island Chili Mustard Onions appears to finally be approaching the finish line. The oft-delayed restaurant located at 3411 Brush St. in Brush Park confirmed to followers on social media this week that it has passed all of its final inspections — typically the final hurdle to opening — and will debut soon. An opening date has not yet been confirmed, but Eater has reached out for more details. When it finally opens, Chili Mustard Onions is expected to offer vegan versions of diner classics like coney dogs, burgers, and gyros as well as items like pierogi and stuffed cabbage.

Preview an upcoming Corktown restaurant

Forthcoming Roosevelt Park anchor restaurant Cork and Gabel is now aiming for an August debut, but in the meantime the Irish, German, and Italian fusion restaurant is going to start testing menu items at neighboring cocktail bar Two James Distillery. Customers can stop by and check out the menu on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning at 7 p.m. on July 9 up until the restaurant opening.
