Amid a rash of closings and restaurant switcheroos, Royal Oak is getting a sprawling new coffee shop next month. Dessert Oasis Coffee confirmed today in posts to social media that the company will open its Royal Oak location on Tuesday, August 7.
Dessert Oasis’s third location in Royal Oak is located at 115 S Main St. — the address formerly home to La Dulce. At 3,200-square-feet, the expansive new cafe is expected to feature an industrial, minimalist look similar to its location in Detroit with previously installed garage door-style windows. It will seat roughly 80 people with. Dessert Oasis is known for roasting its own beans for its expresso drinks and pourovers. The shops also serve a small dessert menu with options like cheesecake and host live music events.
Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters was founded by the Hamood family, who opened their flagship store in Rochester back in 2009 and later expanded to downtown Detroit’s Capitol Park area in 2015. Co-founder Nathan Hamood told Eater earlier this year that he felt the Royal Oak would be a good fit for the company due to its active nightlife and ample foot traffic.
With the opening falling on election day, the cafe will be offering 10 percent off drinks to people with an “I Voted” sticker.
