New York chain plots first metro Detroit location

American-Mediterranean chain Hummus and Pita Co. has confirmed that its first franchise outpost in metro Detroit will land at the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets food court in Auburn Hills. The location is slated to open in October, according to a release. The New York-based chain had previously announced its intentions to open five restaurants in Southeast Michigan with locations in Detroit, Ann Arbor, Troy, Warren, and Canton. It’s part of an overall growth strategy for the company, which intends to roll out 100 franchise locations in 2018.

Napa Valley-inspired restaurant debuts in Partridge Creek

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant is now open at the Mall at Partridge Creek. The 10,500-square-foot establishment at 17440 Hall Rd. is the first Michigan location for the Midwest chain, though the company is looking to expand into Troy by 2020. The self-described “lifestyle brand” has 31 restaurants across eight states and touts itself as offering an atmosphere inspired by California’s well-known Napa wine region complete with a wine tasting room, restaurant, and retail market.

Build-your-own gyro shop heads to Southeast Michigan

Gyroville, a Florida-based restaurant chain, is expanding to its first location in Michigan. The restaurant chain is looking to launch an outpost in either Canton or Ann Arbor, per a release.

Restaurants accommodate dogs with air-conditioned houses

Dogs in Ferndale can now enjoy an air conditioned hideaway at some of Ferndale’s local restaurants. The Kramer Restaurant Group recently installed several DogSpot air conditioned dog houses to keep pups cool while their owners enjoy a meal. The DogSpots can be reserved with a smartphone using the company’s mobile app.
