The Woodbridge neighborhood’s dining scene is about to get a lot bigger. Woodbridge Pub owner and developer Jim Geary confirms to Crain’s that three new restaurants and bars are slated to join the forthcoming Bikes & Coffee and Armageddon Beachparty art gallery in a property at 5063 Trumbull Ave. The new dining spots include a Japanese izakaya called Katsu Detroit, a new location of Lucki’s Cheesecakes, and a “rock-and-roll” watering hole called Lexington Bar.
Katsu is filling a 2,200-square-foot space at the corner of Trumbull Avenue and Putnam Street. The menu will feature grilled meats, salads, and other dishes designed for sharing. The Japanese pub is expected to debut in July. Lucki’s — on track to open by late-spring — will be an extension of the bakery’s current business at 7111 W McNichols Rd. with items like cheesecake and cupcakes alongside savory wraps and macaroni and cheese. Dave Frassetto, formerly a partner in shuttered martini bar (Proof), plans to serve draft beer and whiskey at Lexington Bar.
The new restaurants and bars will join a small but solid lineup of restaurants and bars already serving the area including Pie-Sci pizzeria. Geary’s own neighborhood favorite Woodbridge Pub was placed up for sale along with several other properties for $1.22 million last spring. However, the properties have yet to find a buyer and Geary tells Crain’s that he may just decide to develop them himself.
