Metro Detroit’s vegan restaurant boom is hitting its stride with a new meatless fast-food spot called Unburger Grill setting its sights on Dearborn. The restaurant, which recently launched a Kickstarter campaign, intends to fill a space at 22018 W. Michigan Ave. by the late-summer, Metro Times reports.

Unburger is the brainchild of Jane Beckwith and chef Christopher Oliver, who has more than 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry. Oliver tells the Metro Times he made the switch to a vegan diet two years ago after being diagnosed with diabetes. The menu is still in the early stages of development, but the partners say it will showcase vegan burgers such as black bean, stuffed portabella mushroom, and chickpea oat with Thai red curry. The burgers will also be accompanied by sides like lime-cilantro brussels sprout slaw, zoodle pasta salad, and smoothies.

Unburger Grill’s $55,000 Kickstarter campaign has raised more than $5,000 towards its goal so far. The campaign ends on Wednesday, June 13. If it reaches its goal, the restaurant will join a growing cohort of vegan establishments across the metro area including GreenSpace Cafe and Detroit Vegan Soul. Another fast food-style vegan coney island called Chili Mustard Onions is also expected to open soon in Brush Park.
