Wahlburgers Drops Second Michigan Outpost Downriver on Thursday

Wahlburgers hits Downriver this week

Celebrity-backed burger chain Wahlburgers is slated to debut downriver on April 19, according to the Detroit Free Press. The restaurant is located in Taylor at 21200 Penn St. in a former Big Boy and is the second outpost of Wahlburgers in Michigan. A third location is set to arrive sometime in 2019 in a Beaumont Health development near 13 Mile and Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak. The Taylor location will open for dinner only at first and expand into lunch service on April 23, the News-Herald reports. Mark Walhberg visited the new restaurant during a media preview over the weekend.

Pizzeria receives million-dollar remodel

Shield’s Pizza in Troy is undergoing a major $1 million renovation this spring. The 26-year-old restaurant at 1476 W. Maple Rd. is due to close on May 13 for a complete facelift with help from Ron Rea of Ron & Roman in Birmingham. “A lot of new, trendy concepts are opening in the area. We have to stand out again,” co-owner Paul Andoni tells Crain’s. The restaurant could reopen by August 1.

Glasshouse Brewing in Ann Arbor has changed hands and is on the hunt for a new brewer to run the 7BBL brewery according to a Facebook post by Know Beer. The brewer would be responsible for developing recipes for beer as well as wine and sodas. The brewery’s new owners also hope to expand into liquor.

New shopping mall promises yoga and restaurants

Five & Main, a new mall under development in Commerce Township plans to fill 56 percent of its retail space with food and beverage retailers and entertainment, according to Crain’s. The developer estimates that will include between seven and nine restaurants.
