Awards season
Seafood paradise Voyager in Ferndale has landed a spot among Food & Wine’s Restaurants of the Year. “Like Detroit itself, Voyager has found its way by adapting to shifting tides. It’s a major score for a city on its way up, but any town in America would be very lucky to have it.”
Post Bar bones aren’t human
The bones discovered during a renovation of the former Post Bar in Dearborn are (thankfully) not human, according to the Free Press. A Facebook post went viral earlier this week with a photo of the skeletal discovery, fueling speculation that they could be human remains. The short, thick bones were confirmed to be animal bones.
New Italian eats for Rochester
Per the Oakland Press, downtown Rochester has welcomed new Italian haunt D’Marcos in the former Rojo Mexican Bistro Space on S Main Street, with room for 200. Expect a solid selection of antipasti, alongside meat and seafood — it’s open for dinner only for now.
UFO Solidarity
The Michigan Central Station windows were allegedly lit up in support of the UFO Factory (Update: Metro Times writes that the photos may have been fake). The bar and music venue was forced to close for repairs last summer after construction workers at a neighboring development cracked one of the building’s walls. Thankfully the building is now on the mend.
New Blake’s Cider
Blake’s Hard Cider is dropping a new cider in May, and a “sizeable” level of proceeds from it will be directed to LGBTQ rights organization the Human Rights Campaign. Named Rainbow Seeker, it’s a 5.5 percent apple cider infused with pineapple and sage and will be sold at Meijer and Kroger.
Bacon Bash winner
The Crazy Gringo Mexican Cantina in Clinton Township won the hearts of judges at the Royal Oak Farmers Market’s Bacon Bash over the weekend with its seemingly very tightly packed barbacoa tacos served in a corn tortilla shell with bacon, purple kale, lime Hornitos tequila, melted fresco cheese, habanero sauce, and sour cream.
The distribution bells are ringing
Kalamazoo’s Bell’s Brewery is beefing up its distribution with 11 new distributors set to drop those beers into every New England state alongside New Jersey at some point in the near future.
