Construction workers were busy stripping away the damaged walls at the UFO Factory in Corktown this week, as the popular bar and music venue works towards reopening.
The UFO Factory, located at 2110 Trumbull Ave., closed indefinitely last August after a construction crew from the surrounding Elton Park development compromised the bar’s north wall and foundation during business hours, resulting in a fissure across the exterior of the building.
On Monday, the bar shared photos and videos of crews using sledgehammers and heavy equipment to complete the demolition of the north wall and caused some minor commotion among followers who wondered whether the wall coming down was evidence of yet another construction issue. Fortunately, in comments on Facebook owner Dion Fischer assured fans that the gaping hole in the side of the building was actually a sign of progress noting that roughly one third of the building must be removed and replaced.
It’s still unclear how much of The UFO Factory’s back bar and bar top the company was able to salvage, and Fischer declined to provide specifics on the rebuild to Eater. If all goes according to plan, The UFO Factory hopes to reopen at some point this year.
