Brush Park’s luxury apartment building the Scott is gaining a new restaurant tenant this spring with the arrival of Empire Kitchen & Cocktails. Billed as an “American-style bistro and bar,” the 3,150-square-foot restaurant is slated to open its doors in the northwest corner of the property at 3150 Woodward Ave. in May, according to a release.
Empire was first teased in back in June 2016, when the Scott was still in the midst of construction. The restaurant is geared towards casual dining and is expected to feature a 30-foot-long bar serving cocktails and an outdoor patio. The restaurant will open for dinner initially before expanding into brunch and lunch service.
Owners Michael Abrams and Brian Adelman and partner David Pittaway have recruited a Culinary Institute of America alum chef Aaron Lowen to helm the kitchen, which is expected to serve “all American favorites.” Details are still limited on what that menu will actually look like, but the release notes that carryout will be available. A representative for the restaurant tells Eater more information will likely be available on the menu in the coming weeks.
Empire Kitchen & Cocktails will join a neighborhood that’s quickly filling out with restaurants. For the Love of Sugar bakery and cafe debuted on the ground floor of the Scott in December and the nearby Crystal Lofts building now features several businesses including an outpost of taco chain Bakersfield, New Order Coffee, and Grey Ghost. The owners of Grey Ghost are also planning to open a casual bar in the area called Second Best Bar later this spring. Brush Park will also welcome a vegan coney island very soon.
