Wildly popular New York-based chain The Halal Guys is preparing for its inevitable metro Detroit invasion. The fast-casual restaurant group known for its chicken and rice platters slathered in white sauce announced today in a release that a local franchisee Mufid Farha will bring five locations to Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

The exact locations of those restaurants have yet to be confirmed. However, a spokesperson for Fransmart (the franchise development company taking Halal Guys global) tells Tostada Magazine that the first outpost is expected to launch sometime in 2018.

The red and yellow storefronts tend to generate long lines ahead of their openings in much the same way as fellow beloved New York City chain Shake Shack. It will be intriguing to see what kind of mania the restaurants generate in Southeast Michigan where halal food — especially items like falafel, chicken shawarma, and gyros — are plentiful. However, Halal Guys may just have the special sauce (and name recognition) to satisfy local diners. Stay tuned for updates on where the new Halal Guys locations might land.
