Sfumato Fragrances, a Detroit-based custom perfume shop, is readying to unveil a bar called Castalia in Midtown in March serving up scented cocktails. The new cocktail spot will operate beneath Sfumato’s flagship store inside a big Victorian home at 3980 Second Ave.
“A lot of our fragrance ideas come from the culinary world, so it’s a natural fit to tie in drinks,” says co-owner Kevin Peterson, according to a release. The cocktail lounge within the fragrance shop was originally conceived as an events-only space. However, come the official opening on March 21, the bar will open to the public from 6 p.m. to midnight Wednesday through Saturday.
The cozy space will feature around 18 seats with four at the bar, a representative for Castalia confirms to Eater. The menu will also be equally small with roughly eight cocktails based off Sfumato scents. Customers can expect drinks like a smokey scotch, a fig-infused rye whiskey, and an arcanum Manhattan.

As the bar ramps up to its official debut, Castalia will be hosting several ticketed cocktail tasting events from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 7 through March 10 and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 14 through 17. The cost is $40, which includes a flight of four small cocktails and one full-size drink with snacks. Stay tuned for more updates.
