Downtown Detroit, which boasts a veritable cornucopia of coffee shops, is gaining yet another cafe. Madcap Coffee is joining the seemingly ever-expanding lineup of food and beverage options at the Shinola Hotel, according to Crain’s.
Madcap has been eyeing Detroit for at least a year now. The roaster, which was founded in Grand Rapids in 2008, was part of the downtown Detroit holiday market pop-ups last winter serving piping hot sourdough liege waffles and coffee to shoppers. Thus it’s not entirely surprising that the cafe would eventually land a spot in a Bedrock property. The Detroit outpost will be the fourth location for the company, which is in the process of building out a space at 1412 Farmer St.
The new shop will feature coffee and espresso as well as an as-of-yet-undetermined menu. Similar Madcap shops have served items like fancy toast and waffles. The company is aiming for a January debut.
Businesses moving into the hotel appear to be working in overdrive to open as the Shinola nears its official debut. The hotel began accepting reservations on Wednesday and a few shops including local juice maker Drought have already opened inside the development. NoHo Hospitality Group is planning to bring multiple bar and restaurant projects to the property over the next several months starting with Italian restaurant San Morello on December 18. Stay tuned for more updates on Madcap as the project moves forward.
