There’s always room for more holiday bars, right? The number of Christmas bar pop-ups is multiplying rapidly in metro Detroit and Royal Oak’s Ale Mary’s Beer Hall is next on the list. The bar’s owners are capitalizing on a thirst for Christmas bars with a seasonal takeover it’s calling Jingle. Beginning December 1 and running through December 31 (Christmas no longer ends on December 25), the restaurant and bar’s halls will be decked with all manner of glittering yuletide decor complemented by a peppermint-soaked cocktails served in holiday mugs and Christmas cookies.
Owner Nick Ritts tells Eater that the pop-up is a more formalized follow-up to the intense holiday decorating that his other bar Terry’s Terrace has been doing since 2004. Jingle’s menu is essentially serving Santa in a cup. Expect cocktails like the Yuletide Toddy with vodka, cranberry puree, lime juice, ginger beer, and fresh cranberries and the Naughty Santa Hot Cocoa with hot cocoa, peppermint schnapps, salted caramel Kahlua, whipped cream, and candy cane garnish. Five of the cocktails are vegan-friendly. Plates of Christmas cookies will be available for $10. The bar recommends RSVPing and texting 411669 to reserve a time to drop in.
With the addition of Jingle, metro Detroit has tripled its Christmas bar presence since 2017. International holiday bar pop-up Miracle, which peddles seasonal barware, is returning this year with a kitchy cocktail pop-up at Park Bar and a tiki-themed Christmas bar menu at the Skip. For those seeking classic bar vibes and seasonal decor, Abick’s always looks extremely spiffy around the holidays.
