Wildly popular Christmas bar pop-up Miracle is returning to Detroit for another season of boozy holiday cheer with a new location. The New York City-based seasonal pop-up, which has spread to 92 locations around the country, will once again be taking over downtown Detroit cocktail bar the Skip with a second site at Park Bar. All the gingerbread houses, wreaths, and holiday drink menus arrive on Friday, November 23 and stay through New Year’s Eve on Monday, December 31.
This year’s pop-ups will be a little different than they were in the past as the Miracle developers have partnered up with noted tiki drink expert Jeff “Beachbum” Berry to create a spinoff Christmas tiki-themed pop-up called Sippin’ Santa. That extra-kitschy takeover will be hosted at the Skip, with a separate Sippin’ Santa menu filled with rum-soaked drinks like the Kris Kringle Colada (dark Jamaican rum, cynar, allspice liqueur, lime, pineapple, cream of coconut). Mele Kalikimaka, indeed. The Park Bar, meanwhile, will be hosting a more classic Miracle Christmas bar experience sans umbrella drinks.
Miracle was developed five years ago by founder Greg Boehm, owner of the cocktail bar Mace in New York’s East Village. At the suggestion of his mother, Boehm stopped construction on the then-unopened bar and decked it out with festive decor and holiday-centric drinks. The pop-up became a hit and soon expanded to other bars throughout world. Boehm partially uses the pop-up as a platform to market his glassware and tool importer Cocktail Kingdom; the pop-up serves drinks in special glasses developed by Boehm’s company that are also available for purchase with 10 percent of the proceeds going to Action Against Hunger.
Last year’s Miracle pop-up at the Skip drew huge crowds, so splitting into two separate holiday bars could mean folks will have more luck getting in. Check out the menus for Miracle and Sippin’ Santa below.
