Opening day is quickly approaching for Detroit’s latest fine-dining addition Besa. The restaurant anchors the corner of Woodward and Congress at the base of downtown’s Vinton Building. The splashy new spot began hosting invite-only private previews over the weekend and will continue throughout the week in anticipation of a public opening. The restaurant is beginning to accept reservations by phone for early next week.
The 135-seat restaurant is owned by Tallulah Wine Bar & Bistro’s Mario Camaj, Tallulah alum Gerti Begaj, Wendi Farner, Edi Demaj, Etrit Demaj. The group has tapped chef Kyle Schutte, formerly of Beverly Hills, California restaurant the Flats. Schutte’s menu is expected to feature items like coconut udon with squid ink, seared scallops with braised bacon and masa polenta, duck charcuterie, and more. The restaurant will also have a raw bar for oysters and crudo. At the bar, expect roughly 200 different bottles of wine to choose from as well as cocktails.
A lower level space at Besa will house a chef’s table, a lounge, and private dining space. Stay tuned for more updates on Besa’s opening.
