There’s a new cafe in Corktown. The owners of Detroit Barbers have finally made good on plans to open a coffee bar at their 2000 Michigan Ave. building. The shop, dubbed Lucky Detroit, is located on the second floor of the barber shop and opened on Monday, October 22, after passing its inspections last week.

Detroit Barbers owners Chad and Jami Buchanan opened their Corktown shop a little less than two years ago and have been in the process of renovating the second floor space ever since. The coffee bar has a bit of a saloon vibe thanks to an antique butcher block counter that was salvaged from a former hardware shop combined with vintage metal fixtures and a mounted moose head on the exposed brick walls. Lucky Detroit features a mix of seating including metal bar stools, tables, and red leather couches. In warmer months, Lucky Detroit will feature a back patio and courtyard seating.

The Buchanans have enlisted general manager Patrick McDermott to run the day-to-day operations at the cafe, which is using Bay City-based roaster Populace Coffee beans and tea from Dearborn-based Retea. The shop serves a mixture of pour-overs and espresso drinks.

In addition to the new cafe, Detroit Barbers has also added more barber stations on its second floor to increase its hair-trimming capacity.

Lucky Detroit is located at 2000 Michigan Ave.; the shop is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
