Detroit just can’t seem to get enough pizza and it appears the city’s latest recruit is headed to Michigan Avenue. A new restaurant slinging pies called White Star Pizza is slated to takeover the recently shuttered Detroit Artifactry space in Corktown, WDIV first-reports.

Detroit Artifactry owner Gail Kaye’s son John Kwiatkowski (brother of Detroit Optimist Society partner Dave Kwiatkowski) is slated to takeover the space. “Revamping the pizza joint experience has been on our to-do list for quite some time, and we’re excited to finally see this project unfold,” John tells WDIV. The restaurant is expected to offer “artisanal, Detroit-style pizzas” with vegan-friendly options and a selection of local beers and hard ciders.

While Corktown has its fair share of restaurants and bars, Ottava Via is the only eatery in the area focused on pizza at the moment. White Star’s owners are aiming to open the pizzeria this spring.

Eater has reached out for more details on the project. Stay tuned.
