Barhoppers will once again have a destination for late-night tacos in Hamtramck when Dos Locos Tacos opens its doors in mid-February. The new project from co-owners Mike Petrack and partner Brittany Olmstead is poised to open inside the former Campau Tower space at 10337 Joseph Campau, the Metro Times reports.
The original rendition of Campau Tower closed its doors in 2014 and was eventually rebooted by Rock City Eatery’s chef Nikita Sanches and Jessica Sanches later that same year. After moving their flagship restaurant from Hamtramck to Midtown Detroit, the Sancheses eventually decided to hand over the restaurant ownership to a longtime employee. The restaurant has remained in limbo ever since.
Petrack and Olmstead, who have helped open and manage a number of restaurants throughout metro Detroit, plan to offer a selection of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and sides like fresh chips, salsa, guacamole, and hot sauce. In an effort to make the restaurant more halal-friendly, Dos Locos won’t serve any pork. Diners can also expect plenty of vegetarian options.
The restaurant is expected to stay open until midnight on weeknights and 4 a.m. on weekends for those late-night taco fixes. Dos Locos Tacos could host a soft opening as soon as February 13 (Paczki Day). Stay tuned.
