So the bad news is that Amazon did not choose Detroit for it’s widely coveted second headquarters, but not everything about the hyped up bid was a bust: Detroit got a new collaboration beer out of it.
On Thursday, Batch Brewing Company and Windsor’s Motor Craft Ales jointly announced their collaboration on a new beer called “HQ2” in honor of the sought-after Amazon project.
The rather unfortunate timing is not lost on the brewers. “Losing the Amazon bid is both bitter and sweet. Coincidentally, so is our latest collaboration, HQ2,” Batch co-founder Stephen Roginson says in a release.
The HQ2 beer is a Milkshake IPA with citrus and tropical fruit notes and “lactose for creamy mouth-feel.” It’s expected to be released at both breweries on February 12 — Batch Brewing Company’s third anniversary.
Meanwhile, Batch Brewing Company is continuing to work on its North End taphouse and “funk room” expansion. That’s expected to open sometime during 2018. Motor Craft Ales also has an expansion in the works at 1209 Drouilliard St. in Windsor.
Batch Brewing Company is located at 1400 Porter St. in Detroit; Motor Craft Ales is located at 888 Erie St. E in Windsor
