Roasting Plant Drops Two New Outposts in Southeast Michigan

Shops are currently brewing in Ann Arbor and Dearborn Heights

Coffee chain the Roasting Plant has expanded to two new outposts in Southeast Michigan. Local franchisee Mike Shehadi opened a location at 26931 Ford Rd. in Dearborn Heights last June and followed it up with an Ann Arbor cafe at 312 S. State St. on September 10, according to Crain’s.

The locations each seat roughly 100 customers with indoor and patio seating. Additionally, the Dearborn Heights coffee shop features 24-hour drive-thru service. Customers can expect hot and iced coffee, as well as espresso drinks, teas, and smoothies on the menu.

The New York-based chain — known for its proprietary Javabot roasting system that features a flashy arrangement of pneumatic tubes — first arrived in Michigan in 2012 with help from metro Detroit native Elizabeth Rose (co-founder of New Order Coffee). That location at the base of the First National Building changed hands earlier this year and is now owned by CSI: NY and Homeland actor Hill Harper. Roasting Plant also operates cafes in Denver and Minneapolis.
