Look Inside Royal Oak’s New Two-in-One Brewpub

Open as of right now

Royal Oak gets two new places to drink craft beer today, as Jolly Pumpkin and Bastone Brewery open side-by-side bars in the space previously occupied by Bastone and Vinotecca, on 5th and Main streets.

Expect beers from Jolly Pumpkin (particularly sours), Bastone (especially Belgian-style brews), as well as North Peak and other Michigan brewers.

The new location doesn’t mean the two breweries are now the same business: while they share the same entrance and host station, their menus and kitchens are separate. Jolly Pumpkin’s food offerings are similar to those at its other Detroit and Ann Arbor locations (pizza, burgers, truffle fries), while Bastone has sandwiches, burgers, and a selection of pub-style entrees, like fish and chips and a steak.

But as Bastone co-owner David Ritchie previously told Eater, the two worked together on arranging the space, and there’s a certain closeness.

“It's like two friends helping each other. It's family.”
