Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken is preparing bring its crispy bird recipe to Royal Oak this year, Crain’s reports. The chain’s next outpost is slated to land in a former Starbucks at 31105 Woodward Ave.
The 1,900-square-foot restaurant is expected to seat roughly 50 patrons. It will offer an identical menu to the other restaurants with slightly spicy fried chicken served with sides of baked beans, coleslaw, and white bread. The company has also applied for a liquor license to serve bottled beer.
This will be the Gus’s third location in metro Detroit. The company’s local franchisee Schmaltz Hospitality, which is partially owned by Peas & Carrots Hospitality (Social Kitchen & Bar, Mex, and Beau’s), debuted its first Michigan restaurant in Cass Corridor less than a year ago. A second location in Westland open this past spring. The franchisee announced plans in 2016 to open approximately 30 locations across Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Colorado, and Florida.
The building is expected to begin undergoing renovations soon.
