More than a year in the making, Eastern Market’s new wood-fire grilled eatery Gather debuted on Tuesday evening. Located inside a charming renovated brick building at 1454 Gratiot Avenue on the same block as Trinosophes and Antietam, the restaurant promises market-to-table fare.
Partners Kyle and Lea Hunt with chef Nate Vogeli are behind the 34-seat restaurant project, which features a muted black-and-white color palette punctuated by a large American flag and plenty of greenery. A small four-seat bar runs along one side of the restaurant with three communal tables arranged in front of the open kitchen and grill space.
That wood-burning grill is put to ample use on Vogeli’s menu that showcases seasonal ingredients sourced locally from the nearby market sheds. The opening dishes include char-braised pork belly with cabbage, whole grilled grilled with lemon, charred wings with celery yogurt and buffalo sauce, and mussels served three ways.
That’s not to say the menu is meat-heavy. There is also a wide assortment of salads, vegetable plates like eggplant. On the bar side, diners can expect cocktails prepared with Detroit City Distillery spirits, and a curated selection of wines and beers. Scope out the full menu below.
