Smell that? It’s Atomic Chicken, heating up the fryers at their very soon-to-open New Center location. We’ve now got an opening date — April 12, which is next Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. — and now you can take a look inside.

The Woodward Avenue location was meant to be the first for Matt Baldridge, Greg Reyner, and Scott Moloney’s chicken, waffles, and more fast casual restaurant. Various delays meant they opened up in Clawson first, with a take-out only operation. Customers came, and they liked it, but the metro area has been without Atomic for a few months, as they Clawson location closed up temporarily for winter, and doesn’t have a set reopening date yet. Baldridge has since left the restaurant to focus on his Ferndale restaurant The Conserva, while Moloney and Reyner have recruited partners Buffy Campeau and Justin Polley.

The New Center location is much bigger — check out the cheery red and white color scheme, with lashings of natural light, and according to Moloney, will have a few surprises on the menu — those will be revealed next week. In the meantime, tide yourself over with a look inside the new location, along with some gratuitous fried chicken shots.

STATUS — Atomic Chicken opens Wednesday April 12 at 6500 Woodward Avenue, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
