BOOZE NEWS — Gold Cash Gold in Corktown is freshening up its cocktail menu for spring with the help of a new beverage director, Troy Fox. A longtime member of the GCG team, Fox was hired back in 2015 and has worked closely with management and ownership to develop his skills while also building up the bar program. His revamped menu features 12 seasonal drinks including the Montezuma’s End (a mixture of mezcal, chocolate Meyer lemon liquor, pineapple-habanero, lime, and egg white) and the Gin Chill Pill (gin, cocchi americano, basil, cucumber, coconut water, lime) as well as two new types of boozy slushy. NEWS — The Hatch Detroit contest, which has been a springboard to help many restaurants and bars in the city go brick-and-mortar, will begin accepting applications next month from entrepreneurs with exciting retail projects. Business plans will be accepted online from May 1 through July 14. The winning pitch receives $50,000 from Comerica Bank and a package that includes public relations, legal, IT, and accounting assistance, along with counseling from Hatch and its partners. FOOD TV — Always a character, Oak Park’s Ernie Hassan of legendary sandwich shop Ernie’s Market will appear in a special segment of Food Paradise on the Travel Channel. The spot airs at 8 p.m. on April 30. Meanwhile, private chef and caterer Suzanne Lossia will appear in reality cooking competition Food Network Star in June.
