Just in time for balmy spring weather, a new sweets shop has just thrown open its doors in Cass Corridor. Tou & Mai, a boba tea bar and Asian mini mart, quietly debuted to the public on Monday on West Canfield near the Cass Avenue intersection. The pint sized shop is an expansion of Go! Sy Thai, whose owners Gowhnou and Cedric Lee took over the space following Patrick Thompson Design’s move last fall.
Boba tea or bubble tea as its sometimes called is a beverage invented in Taiwan that features sweetened teas in a variety of flavors with extra large straws for slurping up chewy tapioca and fruit-flavored jelly pearls. It’s a beverage that’s grown popular around the world, though only a few places within the city of Detroit actually offer it.

Tou & Mai’s menu features three styles of drinks — sweet boba teas made with a green tea, milky Thai black tea, and fruit smoothies. Each variety comes in flavors ranging from passion fruit to cucumber to taro root and durian in a 16- or 24-ounce cup and can be customized with different styles of pearls. The shop also offers signature drinks, lattes, ice cream, macarons, and grab-and-go items like fruit cups.

In addition to the sweets bar, Tou & Mai offers a small selection of Asian imported snacks, candies, and gifts and a cooler with items like frozen mochi ice cream, aloe water, dumplings, and tofu. Scope out the menu below:
