Detroit gained a Shake Shack of its very own today at 11 a.m. and it’s already drawing big crowds. Hungry fans of the restaurant’s burgers, concretes, and crinkle cut fries were lined up clear out of the restaurant and around the corner this afternoon waiting to place their orders. Staff at the chain set up a metal barriers directing the growing gathering away from the revolving door entryway towards the Roasting Plant.

According to one staffer, patrons at the end of the line near the entrance of the First National Building at 2 p.m. could expect to wait around 45 minutes while those at the corner crosswalk area between the two main Shake Shack signs were looking at a 30-35 minute wait.

Come March 1, customers can expect lines at the downtown burger spot to ease as patrons will be able to begin placing orders through the company’s proprietary Shack App for online pre-order and pick-up.

This is Shake Shack’s 122 location worldwide and first in Michigan. The Detroit location features a lineup of specialty menu items including frozen custard “concretes” prepared with Bon Bon Bon, Sister Pie, Rocky’s, and Zingerman’s ingredients.

Shake Shack is located at 660 Woodward Avenue; the restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. 313.672.0501. Website.
