Texas-style barbecue destination Lockhart’s BBQ is once again in expansion mode. The metro Detroit mini chain is currently eyeing a spot in Cass Corridor to launch another full-service outpost, Crain’s reports. If Lockhart’s owners seal the deal, the restaurant would be located in The District Detroit — a forthcoming residential and entertainment area surrounding the Little Caesar’s Arena and headquarters.
It would be the third full-scale barbecue restaurant for Lockhart’s, which expanded last year from Royal Oak to a second location in Lake Orion. Partners Drew Cioria and Rick Ghersi are also apparently in the process of launching a fast-casual barbecue brand as well called Lockhart’s BBQ Shack, with restaurants potentially headed to Wixom and Northville. The Shacks would have a smaller footprint than Lockhart’s main restaurants at around 3,000-square-feet with prices to match. Cioria and Ghersi hope to open between two and three Lockhart’s BBQ Shacks over the next two years.
