The James Beard Foundation has released its long list of semifinalists, recognizing culinary achievement across the country. Several Detroit-area chefs and restaurants were given nods, though it's important to remember that this is the “long list” of nominees.

Here’s the full list of nominees. Among the local highlights: Katoi is being considered for the Best New Restaurant category. Lisa Ludwinski of Sister Pie is a potential nominee for Outstanding Baker. Standby is being considered in the Outstanding Bar Program category. Additionally, plenty of local chefs are in the running for Best Chef: Great Lakes, including James Rigato (Mabel Gray), Andy Hollyday (Selden Standard), and Nick Janutol (Forest). Both Hollyday and Janutol were considered for the category in 2016.

Semifinalists were selected from a list of 24,000 online entries. The finalists will be revealed March 15, and the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on May 1 in Chicago.
