Northwest Detroit’s cozy neighborhood bakery and cafe Good Cakes and Bakes is plotting an expansion. The bakeshop owned by chef April Anderson and Michelle Anderson is looking to open a second outpost soon in Detroit.
Earlier this year, April Anderson pitched her business plan at the Quicken Loans Detroit Demo Day alongside other local businesses and won a substantial prize — a $200,000 investment for Good Cakes and Bakes’ expansion.
Eater has heard whispers that the bakery may be getting ready to open a production facility somewhere in Detroit. However, the bakery’s publicist David Rudolph tells Eater that the bakery owners are still “considering her options for growth.” He adds, “No definitive plans have been set as yet, however Good Cakes and Bakes is committed to its presence and support of being a Detroit neighborhood business.”
Good Cakes and Bakes opened off Livernois Avenue on The Avenue of Fashion strip in 2013. The pastry shop specializes in desserts made primarily with organic and locally grown ingredients including the house specialty gooey butter cake. Stay tuned for more updates on the expansion soon.
